Tucked into the grounds of the Texas State Cemetery in East Austin, this is the resting place of Albert Sidney Johnston, a Confederate general killed at the Battle of Shiloh in 1862. What draws most visitors is the monument itself: a recumbent marble figure of Johnston sculpted by Elisabet Ney, the German-born Austin artist, sheltered beneath a Gothic-style stone canopy.
