Tucked beside the Congress Avenue Bridge, this is the spot where you'll join crowds gathering at dusk from spring through fall to watch hundreds of thousands of Mexican free-tailed bats stream out from under the bridge into the evening sky. Come a little before sunset, bring patience for the timing (the bats keep their own schedule), and note that the emergence is a summer-season event—on cooler months the colony thins out as the bats migrate south.

Come toward sunset when the light warms the limestone and the water below, and expect company—it's a well-loved spot, so the small pullout parking fills quickly.
