Tucked into one of the original squares from Austin's 1839 city plan, Brush Square centers on the modest Victorian cottage where writer William Sydney Porter — better known as O. Henry — lived in the 1890s, now preserved as a small museum of his Austin years. Note the limited hours before you go: the museum keeps a narrow midweek window, so it's worth pairing a visit with a stroll around the downtown green it shares with a couple of other historic cottages.
