Blunn Creek Greenbelt is a compact nature preserve in Travis Heights, where a short network of dirt trails follows the creek through woods and up to a small volcanic outcrop—remnants of ancient ash deposits—that gives you a quiet overlook above South Austin. It's an unpolished, locally loved spot rather than a manicured park, so expect uneven footing, a few creek crossings, and the kind of birdsong and shade that make it easy to forget you're minutes from South Congress.

Barton Springs Pool

Barton Springs Pool is a three-acre spring-fed swimming hole in Zilker Park, where water bubbles up from the Edwards Aquifer to hold a steady 68–70°F year-round, cold enough to take your breath in summer and oddly tolerable in winter. Watch for the Barton Springs salamander, an endangered species found nowhere else, which is part of why the limestone-lined pool is managed as carefully as it is.
